After creating history in Australia, now Team India has to play a four-match Test series against England. The first Test of this series will be played in Chennai from February 5. In the first match against England, Team India can take the field with three spinners. When England last visited India in December 2016, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja together took 54 wickets from England’s 93 wickets and India won the five-match Test series 4–0. However, this time due to a thumb fracture, Jadeja will not be able to play in the first two matches of the four-match Test series with England. In such a situation, India may have to choose between Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Akshar Patel along with Ashwin.
India beat veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin with Washington Sundar (one Test), left-arm spinner Axar Patel (no Test) and Kuldeep Yadav (six Tests) for the first two Tests starting at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai from February 5. It is more likely that India can get down with five specialist bowlers in the first Test. There can be three spinners and two fast bowlers including Sundar. Sundar, who made his Test debut in Brisbane on Australia tour, can do wonders with both bat and ball.
The team management has also indicated that Kuldeep may get a chance to play in the home series. Acting captain Ajinkya Rahane and bowling coach Bharat Arun have already said that the wrist spinner has practiced a lot on the Nets, but he did not get a chance to play in Australia. Both have said that they can get a chance to play in the series against England in India. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep has not played any Test match for more than two years. On the tour of Australia, he played against Australia-A in Sydney, in which he did not get any wickets in 16 overs. Sundar and Ashwin can be part of the final eleven along with Kuldeep, as this Chennai ground is Sundar and Ashwin’s home ground.
