Sports desk. The players’ auction for the 14th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took place in Chennai on 18 February. During this period, where Australian cricketers like Glenn Maxwell, Jhay Richardson spent crores, while Steve Smith sold for just 2.2 crores. Australia’s Uncapped Relay Meredith was also seen by the franchise teams and was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 8 crore. Former Australia captain Michael Clarke expressed his opinion on the value of Steve Smith. Not only this, Clarke believes that if Smith decides to withdraw from the 14th season of the IPL, it will not come as a surprise.
Regarding Smith, Clarke said, ‘If you talk about Steve Smith, he may not be the best batsman in the world, but it is not far from it either. If Virat Kohli is number-1, then he is also included in the top-3. I know his performance in T20 has not been very special, previous IPL was not good, but I am surprised at what rate he has sold.
Clarke added, “The price he was playing last year and the role he was in. He was the captain of Rajasthan Royals, so if he gets hamstring before leaving for India, I would not be surprised. Clarke believes that Smith can withdraw from the 14th season of the IPL by citing hamstring or some other injury.
