Ricky Ponting, the head coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise team Delhi Capitals, believes that wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant will enjoy the additional responsibility of leading the team. Not only this, he believes that captaincy will improve in Pant. Pant has been named the captain of the Delhi Capitals for the 14th season of the IPL due to injury to regular captain Shreyas Iyer.
Ponting said, “I think he will fully enjoy the additional responsibility. He is the kind of person who likes responsibility, who likes to lead, so I am really excited to see how he handles responsibility. ‘ He said, “We will help him, but to be honest, I do not think he will need much help.”
The former Australian captain said that supporting the new captain would be part of the work of the coaching staff and senior players. He said, ‘I think if we can talk to Rishabh about his captaincy before the first match, then we don’t have to worry about it when the tournament starts. When the tournament starts, you don’t want to burden the captain with suggestions.
