Ranji Trophy will not be played for the first time in 87 years, BCCI decided for this reason

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India, ie BCCI, has decided that the Ranji Trophy will be replaced by the Vijay Hazare Trophy this season. Indeed, the global epidemic of coronaviruses has changed both the state and direction of sports in the country. With the 14th season of IPL scheduled to be held in April, the BCCI has only two months left to host any domestic tournament.

Keeping all these in mind, the BCCI had asked all the associations to give their opinion on either the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Ranji Trophy. Various state cricket associations have responded to the suggestion sought by board secretary Jai Shah, based on which, in this season, apart from Vijay Hazare, only the Senior Women’s ODI and Under-19 Veenu Mankad Trophy will be held.

Although no tournament dates have been announced yet, it is anticipated that the Hazare Trophy may start in the second and third week of February. As per media reports, most of the state associations except Andhra Pradesh are in favor of Vijay Hazare Trophy. Most unions agree on shorter format tournaments.
