ICC launches new initiative as ‘Player of the Month’ award

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the inauguration of the ICC Player of the Month Awards on 27 January 2021 to recognize and celebrate the best performances of male and female cricketers in all forms of international cricket. The process would be like the formation of an independent ICC voting academy, consisting of former players, broadcasters and journalists from around the world, teaming with fans to vote for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month and the ICC Women’s Player of the Month.

Fans enjoyed a sensational cricket performance during the month of January and made the inaugural player of the month a highly competitive affair. The nomination and voting process is as follows: Three candidates for each category will be shortlisted by the ICC Awards Nomination Committee based on on-field performance and overall achievements during that month’s period (from the first day of each calendar to the last day of the month). .

The shortlisted candidate is then voted on by the independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the world. The ICC Voting Academy will submit its votes via email and retain 90% of the vote. Subsequently, on the first day of each month, fans registered in the ICC can submit votes through the ICC website and will have 10% of the vote. The winners will be announced every second Monday of the month through ICC’s digital channels.
