new Delhi. Former opener Gautam Gambhir said that the spin attack that England has, they do not think that their team will win a single match against India in the four-match Test series. England have included spinners like Moin Ali, Dom Bess and Jack Leach in their squad. The experienced Moin has taken 181 wickets in 60 Tests, while the same base and Leach have played 12-12 Tests. Bess has taken 31 and Leach has taken 44 wickets. Gambhir said in ‘Star Sports’ program’ Game Plan ‘,’ The kind of spin attack that England has, I don’t think their team will win a single Test match.
The 39-year-old former player said, ‘The Indian team will win this series 3–0 or 3–1. I think England will have a 50 percent chance of winning the match given the circumstances in the Test match played in the Day-Night Test. Gambhir said that England captain Joe Root, who batted brilliantly in Sri Lanka, will have to face different challenges in India. England had a stunning 2–0 win in Sri Lanka. Gambhir said, “Test series in India will be a completely different challenge for a player like Joe Root.” He said, ‘Yes, he played really well in Sri Lanka, but when you face a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah on any wicket, or Ravichandran Ashwin, it will be quite different.
That too when his confidence has skyrocketed after a great performance in Australia, I am sure there will be a completely different kind of challenge. The first two Tests of the series will be played in Chennai, starting on Friday, the third and fourth matches will be played at the renovated Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad. The third match will be with pink ball (day and night). Like Gautam Gambhir, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting made similar claims during the India-Australia series. Ricky Ponting had claimed Australia to win the series 4–0, but in the end India lost the series. Gautam Gambhir is also making claims like Ponting. England’s team is no less than anyone and they have beaten India 2–1 in 2012.
