New Delhi: Before the Test series against England starting on February 5, former India team opener Gautam Gambhir has made a statement regarding captaincy of captain Virat Kohli. Gambhir has said that he never questioned Kohli’s captaincy in Tests and ODIs. Gambhir has also expressed the hope that the Indian cricket team under Kohli’s captaincy will touch new heights.
It is notable that Kohli will return as captain in the Test series against England. Virat Kohli was not in the team in the last three Tests against Australia. Kohli returned home after the Adelaide Test. Ajinkya Rahane succeeded Team India in his place. Under Rahane’s captaincy, Team India beat Australia 2–1 in their home. When Gambhir was asked about Kohli’s captaincy in Star Sports’ show Game Plan, he replied that I never questioned Virat Kohli’s captaincy for Test or ODI cricket. Gambhir also hoped that the Indian team would progress strongly under Kohli’s leadership.
Gautam Gambhir said that I have always questioned Kohli’s T20 captaincy. I did not comment on Test and ODI captaincy. Gambhir said that under the leadership of Kohli, Team India has shown a great game in Test cricket. Gambhir further said that Team India has never been dependent on one or two players and Kohli has often said these things. Gambhir said that Kohli is fresh in the England series, this will benefit the team.
