Rourkela Steel Plant fire, outcry among people


A minor fire broke out at Rourkela Steel Plant around 3 am on Monday. According to reports, the incident took place in the control room of Steel Melting Shop-2 of the Steel Authority of India Limited. Authorities have not yet confirmed any loss of life or property.

The RSP states that “no one was injured in the incident. Work is underway on a war footing to restore normal operations on SMS-2.” However, all electronic equipment and electrical equipment worth millions were damaged in the fire accident. RSP firefighters arrived on the spot as soon as the information was received. The officers created chaos. According to the information, the reason behind such a big fire has been stated to be boiling in the slag pot. Although no one was injured, production has been affected, RSP said.

The incident occurred after a sudden outbreak of a lava boiler. The CEO and other senior officials of the steel plant visited the site and work is on to restore the cable and normalcy at the earliest. Whereas Rourkela SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamu said that “the Station House Officer (SHO) visited the accident site to collect more information”. Meanwhile, a committee has been formed to identify the exact cause of the fire accident.
