Even after the introduction of the corona virus vaccine, a big question was raised about the effective vaccine on children. Most of the candidates were tested on adults and their vaccination was also started. In such a situation, there was a concern about the safety of children. Now the US company Pfizer has reported a great relief that its Kovid-19 vaccine protects children above 12 years of age. Along with this, there is also the hope of vaccinating the children before the time of opening of school, so far most of the vaccines were being given to people 16 years of age and above. This announcement of Pfizer could open the door for extended use of the vaccine in children. Test data on 2,260 volunteers aged 12–15 years found that no cases of corona infection were detected after complete vaccinations. That is, the vaccine was said to be 100% effective.
This study has not been published yet and a large number of volunteers were not tested, but a large amount of work is expected to generate antibodies in children. Virus-fighting antibodies were found to be higher in children than in adults. However, the side effects on them are also similar to those of elders which include pain, fever, fatigue. Volunteers will be tracked for two years and the safety and effectiveness of the study will be studied for a long time. A plan has been made to ask for permission to give vaccine to children. The company aims to have children vaccinated before the next season begins.
In addition to Pfizer, Moderna is also conducting a vaccine test on children aged 12–17 and its results may be revealed soon. The special thing is that the FDA has given permission to conduct vaccine tests on children up to 11 years of age, while relying on the results of the two companies so far. Last month, AstraZeneca launched a study in the UK on children aged 6 to 17 years. At the same time, Johnson & Johnson is also studying. Sinovac of China has also termed his vaccine effective for children up to 3 years old.
