The Election Commission on Friday ordered a re-polling at a polling station in Ratabari assembly constituency of Assam. After voting here, the vehicle in which the election officials carried the EVM belonged to a BJP candidate. The Election Commission said in a statement that the election officer and three other officials have been suspended. The Election Commission said, “Although the seal of EVMs was correct, it has been decided to vote again in Ratabari (Su) LAC 1 Polling Station No. 149 Indira MV School.” Some of the AIUDF supporters saw EVMs being carried in the vehicle of a BJP candidate, following which violence erupted here on Thursday night. The police had to fire in the air to bring the situation under control.

The Congress on Friday targeted the Election Commission after receiving an EVM from the vehicle of a BJP MLA in Assam and said that the Commission should take decisive steps on it. The main opposition party also said that it would be fatal for democracy if the Election Commission remains silent.
