Gandhinagar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a resounding victory in the Gujarat elections. The BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the elections of 81 district bodies, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluks in the state. Out of 2720 seats in 81 municipalities, BJP has won 2085 seats, Congress has won 388 seats and Independents 172 seats. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party has won 9 seats.
Out of the 980 seats in the district panchayat, 800 seats have gone to the BJP, while the Congress has got only 169 seats, with two seats the AAP has also opened an account. In addition, out of 4774 seats in 231 taluka panchayats, BJP has won 3351 seats, Congress 1252 seats and AAP 31 seats. Earlier in the first phase of the civic elections held in Gujarat last month, the BJP won all six municipal corporations. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM won nine seats in the Modasa municipality of Aravalli district. Along with this he had won one seat from Bharuch and seven seats from Godhra of Panchmahal.
PM Modi said that the results show that Gujarat stands firmly on the agenda of development and good governance of the party. He wrote in a tweet, “The results of the municipal, taluka panchayat and zilla panchayat elections across Gujarat give a clear message – Gujarat is with BJP’s agenda of development and good governance.” He said, “I salute the people of Gujarat in BJP for their unwavering faith and affection”.
