Nimmi was born on 18 February 1933 in Agra. His original name was Nawab Banu. Her mother Waheedan was a film singer along with being a famous singer and she worked in a few films with the famous producer, director Mehboo Khan. Nimmi’s father worked in the army as a contractor. When Nimmi was just nine years old, her mother passed away. After this, she moved to live with her grandmother. Nimmi moved to Mumbai after the Partition of India.
During this time he met producer-director Mahboob Khan. Mehboob Khan had earlier produced some films about his mother. He was producing his new film ‘Andaz’ in those days. He called Nimmi to the film studio. On the set of the film ‘Andaaz’, Nimmi met actor Raj Kapoor, who was busy searching for new faces for her new film ‘Barsaat’ and had chosen Nargis for the lead actress. Raj Kapoor, impressed by Nimmi’s beauty, offered her to act as a supporting actress in the film, which she accepted. He has acted in more than 50 films.
